Bev in Colorado tagged me for a meme - 8 random things about me. But first here's a picture of my 6-year-old granddaughter touring the garden today. She found a paper parasol on the porch and decided it would be perfect for a stroll.

Now for the meme:

· There isn’t a day that I don’t eat chocolate.

· I’ve been going to the same dentist since I was 18 years old. I’m now 60.

· I love music but it makes me sad – I rarely listen to it.

· I worked in a carnation greenhouse when I was a teenager. Nowadays when I order an arrangement of flowers for any occasion, I always specify “no carnations”.

· I’ve read thousands of books in my lifetime. I generally have two or three going at once at any given time. I get worried if I don’t always have a supply of books and I tend to stockpile them.

· I can’t find anything in my house unless it’s something I use every day. This is one of the great frustrations of my life. I’ve lived in this house for 30 years and things rearrange themselves when I’m not looking.

· One dark and rainy night about 10 years ago my daughter and I experienced a “raining frogs” phenomenon. Hundreds and hundreds of them hopping across a mile-long stretch of interstate outside Tulsa. We couldn’t avoid them and the highway was slick with squished frogs. We’ve never convinced anyone that this happened.

· I have 317 species of birds on my life list. The thrill of seeing a new bird always stops me in my tracks, but my favorite bird is in my own backyard – the ubiquitous American Robin.

My backyard birding companion - the neighbor's cat - watching himself for a change instead of my birdfeeder.

My daughter is coming for a visit. I need to find the vacuum cleaner, take the Christmas tree out of her room, and do a bit of "light housework". So I won't be posting for the next week or so but I'll be checking in occasionally to keep up with what everyone is doing. Oh, I'm supposed to tag 8 other bloggers to post 8 random things, so this means you!

I experienced this 'raining' frogs phenomena when I was staying at a lake in BC Canada. We drove to town because we had no power and the road was literally covered in frogs, we could not drive without going over them. The road was solid frogs and the way was quite slick. Never to this day have I ever seen or heard of someone else experiencing this.............

If you can't find your vacuum cleaner, I think I know where mine is if you want to borrow it. Can't help you with the Christmas tree, but I am acquainted with the phenomenon of things moving around a house on their own so you can't find them!

Too funny!

Too late I've already been tagged by Bev herself. ;-)

We are the same regarding books and chocolate I see. :-D Just bought a new pile of books on Saturday.

Cute pic of your granddaughter!

Lost Roses, my goodness. Don't let music make you sad...although I cry sometimes! Find your Endust and your vacuum cleaner and go for it! LOL!

I've never been fond of carnations, either, but they smell nice.

You revealed your age and I am shocked. You are very well preserved - especially your FEET! (wink)

You bird list is a heck of a lot longer than mine but I'm working on it.

I would have loved to see the frog run. Wow.

Enjoy your daughter! Don't be away too long.

Lost Roses... how great! However, I need to steal your chocolate one. Oh... and the one about books. And... maybe the house... heck, might as well make it all of them. Have fun and be back soon, I'll miss you.

Lostroses, Loved finding out more about you.

I try to have a piece of chocolate every day too! It just make good sense :)

Enjoy your time with your family.

Love your parasol toting granddaughter! She has style! All interesting things! Vacuuming is overrated!

LostRoses said...

Dorothy, hallelujah, someone else experienced this! As they say, "you had to be there." So glad you stopped by my blog!

Carol, I become more convinced every day that it would benefit me if we were neighbors. First you offer me your lawnmower, and now the vacuum cleaner. I did find mine. It was in a corner of the living room where it has been sitting so long I registered it as another piece of furniture.

Yolanda, my granddaughter is quite the little miss. When she grabbed that parasol and took off into the garden I knew I had to get a shot.
Books and chocolate....yes!

Mary, if I want a really good cry (which I don't) I'll listen to just about any tenor singing Nessun Dorma.

I sometimes see those miniature carnations in a bouquet at the grocery store and I almost like them. It's the big ones I hate.

And if you think I'm old (though well-preserved!) you ought to see my dentist.

Your bird list may not be as long, but at least you can take fantastic photos of them, which I have not yet mastered!

Bev, the chocolate one is a no-brainer, isn't it? Though I certainly know people with more self-control than I have!

Bob, I like that..."it makes good sense"!

Layanee, you've heard the Erma Bombeck saying, "housework, done right, can kill you." I totally believe that!

And my granddaughter, at age 6, is totally sure she has style! The innocent conceit of little children is very amusing to me.

hi there, I have just been tagged for this myself and need to find the time to write down some items. I find that we have some things in common. :-) Have fun with your daughter! Andrea

Your dentist must be amazing! I can relate to all of your facts about yourself.
The photo of your grand-daughter is so pretty, it makes my heart ache.

LostRoses said...

Andrea, it's funny that it sounds so simple but I really had to wrack my brain for 8 things! We all seem to have a lot of the same things in common, don't we?

Lynne, my big fear in life is that he'll suddenly retire (or die) and I'll have to break in a new dentist. I have no idea what the modern procedures are, his equipment is way old. But then, so are my teeth!

That is such a sweet thing to say about my granddaughter's picture. I felt the same way myself!

We may be in the same cohort group but your random things are really different! Except for chocolate.

You've been in one house for 30 years - we've been in 4 houses in that time, with innumerable doctors and dentists.

Housework done right might not kill you, but disturbing the dust can set off your allergies, so be careful!

PS Did you ever see the movie "Magnolia"? Maybe the director had a similar experience to you and your daughter.

Hi there! I too looove chocolate! Wish I could have some every day too, but I find it too expensive at close to one euro for a small bar. So I dream of it... *dreams*
Just came back from visiting my Mom's yesterday, my garden's a mess, BUT.. the pink columbine seeds are finally set! The seed pods are rattling nicely, so, I'll send them off today or tommorro.

Dirty Fingernails said...

I had to meet my new dentist yesterday.. I was so nervous. Had to change because of insurance.. anyway he turned out to be better than the first.. I can feel your anxiety about that.. I love your garden furry friends.

LostRoses said...

Hmm, Annie, Magnolia? I may have to make myself watch a Tom Cruise movie in order to see the frog scene. I recently requested Ray from the library so I can see the bottle tree mentioned in an article in the gardening section of the newspaper. I'll get caught up on my movie watching yet.

I haven't found the Endust yet so I'm saving my sneezes!

Yikes, Salix, that is expensive! Though I admit a weakness for Dove chocolate which is only slightly higher-priced than M&M's, my other favorite.

I bet you have a lot of gardening to do, and I'm delighted to hear that the pink columbine seeds are ripening nicely! Welcome back.

Hi Dirty fingernails, thanks for visiting! I'm sure when I do change dentists I'll find the same thing you did, that I like the new one better, but I just hate to change.

That's only one garden furry friend, he's looking at himself in a mirror!

The cat picture is great ... your granddaughter looks delightful with her parasol.

Enjoy your visit!

Oh, please forgive me but I won't consider myself tagged... I find it too difficult to find and write such things about myself... ;-)))

But I really enjoyed reading your random things. How amazing, you have the same dentist for almost 50 years! And how funny that things rearrange themselves when your're not looking. I know how this feels... ;-))

Best wishes from Germany,
Anita

I believe the frog story, I have experienced it as well, a long time ago, in the late 60s.

Annie in Austin said...

Don't believe all that you read, Lost Roses.... Magnolia is NOT a Tom Cruise movie... he's just in it.
Magnolia is just as much a John C Reilly, Julianna Moore, Jason Robards and Philip Seymour Hoffman movie. [plus a lot of other wonderful people]

Annie at the Transplantable Rose

LostRoses said...

Thanks Kate, they're both delightful - granddaughter and cat!

Anita, I know what you mean, it took me so long to think up these things. You are excused! And I believe my house is rearranging things as we speak.

Iowa Gardening Woman, Yay, another believer! I feel vindicated at long last.

Well, Annie, that is a relief. I can now safely put it on my "to watch" list! Isn't Philip Seymour Hoffman an interesting actor? He certainly plays a wide array of characters, and admirably so. Thanks for the recommendation!

It is soo wonderful learning about you!

Well, it's a shame to take that tree down when in just 5 more months it will be Christmas again! LOL.

I can imagine how long it took to think up those interesting random facts. I can never think of anything for those memes.

I hope I am never out when it starts raining frogs. Frogs give me the weebie jeebies!!

I hope you are having a great time with your daughter.

Lost Roses... Vacuum cleaners as furniture? Is that like leaving the wheelbarrow out long enough that it becomes a lawn ornament? Hope you've been having a nice visit with your daughter.

Bob said...

Lost roses, I just updated my blog and put you on my links list. Thank you for your continued interesting blog and great photos.

BOB

LostRoses said...

mon@arch, thanks! When my daughter was here I showed her the picture of you in chains at your desk. She was highly amused!

Zoey, that tree didn't go far. It's handy to put back up in a few months!

We never get any frogs here so I've never had a chance to be creeped out by them except for that one incident.

Carol, well yeah, doesn't everyone do that with their vacuum cleaner?

Bob, thanks for putting me on your links list. I've really been enjoying your blog too!

Back in the early 1980's I was driving in a heavy rainstorm between Bethany, OK and Yukon, OK and it dawned on me that it looked like the road was alive and moving... When I slowed down so I could look closer I realized that the road was covered by frogs trying to hop across. It was a total frenzied mass of hopping frogs. This went on for approximately 2 miles. The only explanation that I could ever think was that it was some sort of spring migration. Enjoyed reading your blog. Thanks for some interesting memories.

LostRoses said...

helen, you've made my day! I emailed my daughter about your comment, and we're especially happy that your experience was also in Oklahoma. An interesting memory, indeed!

I stockpile books too, for the same reason. And I always keep one in my car for fear I'm going to be stuck somewhere for hours with nothing to read! My first visit to your blog--I'll be back!

LostRoses said...

David, thanks for visiting. I've got the book-in-the car thing going on too. They also make good props when I'm bringing home plants from the nursery to hold them upright!
