It was even more difficult to maneuver around these candle houses and trees that made it from the front porch shelf to just inside the door and no further. I did make a path through them so I could go out and get the mail every day. It was more interesting to watch home fix-up shows on HGTV and think about replacing these 1950's (excuse me, I meant mid-century) tiles with nice updated 12x12 inch ceramic ones. That's not going to happen though.

Outside, the garden is just as uninspired as I am. Snow, ice, and desiccated leaves and berries are the only things on show. A few seed catalogs have landed in my mailbox but I'm not likely to order any. I just like looking at them.

The squirrels may want to slow down but as long as there's food to be raided in the feeders, they're busy. I see a snowflake hanging on that branch that I forgot to put away. If I leave it out there long enough, the squirrels will probably chew it up and I won't have to worry about it.

Good thing I'll be going to Mexico next month so I can be officially lazy. Before then, my main ambition is to catch up on all your blogs!

What a nice surprise this morning to see a comment from you on one of my posts, and then to come over here and see your new post. I had nearly lost hope, I had assumed that you were indeed lost from the blogosphere, that you were a lost Lost Roses.

Glad to see you back posting, Lost Roses--hope this means you're feeling better (lethargy is okay at this time of year). Your admission about the decorations not put away yet made me chuckle; there's been a tote box of decorations in the living room for nearly two weeks, as I refuse to take it upstairs and my longsuffering spouse keeps forgetting. I'm waiting to see how long it lasts there.
Mexico sounds fine to me...Ill content myself with reading your reports, though.
Ahhh, Mexico is NEXT month. I'm glad you are back. Maybe next time you won't be away for so long? I really do understand what a cold can do to upset every routine you have. Good to hear you are feeling better. I'm finally breathing well, too.
I'm curious to see how long that snowflake will last on that tree.

It's wonderful to read a post from you again, LostRoses, and imagine you with gently sarcastic eyebrow arched as you type words like "mid-century". The deer look kind of trendy-funky on the porch and as long as you can get out the door who cares!

I still have several holiday decorations that need to be put away. With the long weekend coming up I may get to them - or not. January is such a blah month. I can't get myself motivated to do much. Having a tropical getaway to look forward to should help get you through the next few weeks!
Your post made me laugh because I just put my Christmas decorations away. Two days ago. After they sat on the coffee table since New Years.
Are you hoping to make the squirrel sick or just not have to put the snowflake away? :0)

Jodi, I feel your pain. Though I must say I'm surprised I managed to get mine put away before February. Lethargy is still in full force though!
Mary, I'd like to see a rule that allows only one cold every five years, or something like that. Glad you're feeling better too. I predict that snowflake will be there in May since the squirrels are showing no interest in hauling it off, and heaven knows I won't!

Apple, I have to say my mind has been wandering to a tropical climate and a few fruity drinks. I agree that January is pretty blah in northern climes, for sure. I know you'll get those decorations put away soon, but I wouldn't ruin a long weekend doing it!
Katie, it seems we all procrastinate when it comes to putting away Christmas! I don't feel nearly as bad now. As for the snowflake - either outcome is fine with me!

I think so many people, including me are feeling the winter blahs. At least you'll be going to a warm climate. I also have some Christmas stuff not put away, but will get to it soon. I'm just trying to do things that have been bugging me, like cleaning out closets, etc. And then I am doing a little art work too.

Just happened to come across your blog. I too have still not put all the christmas decorations away yet they have just been put to one side. It has been too wet here to bring in the lights from outside so they are all still up too. Love all of your photos.

Ah, the lovely lazy days of winter. I think many of us are slower and leave things till tommorro during the dark winter days. I feel much sleepier during winter, and the wet and cold keeps me indoors a lot. We're allowed a bit of hibernation, aren't we?

I giggle at "mid-century," too. When I was looking at houses for the first time, I would cringe at the bad 1950's stuff. (Not like your tiles, which are actually very cute--I would vote to leave them.) I wonder if I would have had a different thought about them if they had been packaged as "mid-century modern?"
Oh, how nice to find another blogger who is not blogging very much this winter! Thank you!!!! Time in Mexico sounds wonderful - I have a serious case of cabin fever and will have to take a little vacation soon myself.
I do the same thing with my Christmas decorations - they sit in piles everywhere until I get up the energy to put them away (and how does their usual storage space always seem to be filled with other junk in only a month's time????). I do the same thing in the fall with the boat stuff - life jackets and coolers and marine tp tripping me up everywhere I turn. I blame my mom. :)

I am just catching up on everyones blog's myself. Your posts always make me smile if they don't make me laugh out loud. I think you say what most of us are thinking. As far as the Christmas decorations go, isn't that what a spare room is for? Sort of like a junk drawer? We have a little dormer room that has become a catch all. There just might be a Christmas decoration or two hanging out there. Can't wait to see some pics from Mexico, what a perfect time of year to go!
