MELTING SNOW AND FALLEN LEAVES

After two snowfalls last week the snow has melted (mostly) and even though my trees have shed only about half their leaves, I spent the afternoon blowing them into huge piles. Then the wind tried hard to scatter them again but I did manage to get a few bags filled. Those piles of leaves aren't half as much fun as they used to be when there was a small child or a pet to jump in them. I bought some Halloween leaf bags to fill and take over to the grandchildren's house since the trees there are too small to produce enough leaves to fill even one of these.
While I raked, old man tree kept an eye out on his fallen progeny. Small children don't know what to make of this face, but squirrels like to knock the nose off. Now if they'd just finish knocking the leaves down they could make themselves useful for a change.

I love what you've done to the tree. Looks like he has some things to say and stories to tell!

Carol, no doubt mostly about how the squirrels strip his bark!

Oh that tree face is fantastic LR! So fairytale like, love it! Have you made that by urself?

And how great are those Halloween grass bags, practical and a decoration at the same time.

Oh Carol, they sell those tree faces all over the place here in the U.S. At first I only saw them in catalogs and now they're in WalMart! I wish I HAD thought of it, I'd be a wealthy woman now. I like a bit of whimsy in the garden!

I also LOVE your Halloween bags and your tree is awesome! Both are cheap and very fun ideas. Thanks for showing them.

I like the part about bringing leaves to your grandchildren! My parents had only stick trees on prairie when my siblings and I were kids, so that we'd have to crunch leaves in our friends' yards. The trees finally reached climbing size, to their grandchildren's delight.

Your old man tree is fantastic. We have a tree with a face too, but not a tree with as much character as your tree has. How gracious to share leaves. Yes, I agree that the squirrels could help knocking the leaves down. Can we give them little rakes?

Thanks for your nice comments everyone! Salix, each piece of the face has a small hanger on the back and I just put little nails in the tree trunk to hold them on.
