We can hope - and quote "Hope is the thing with feathers", but too often the feathers end up in the cockade of a military hat.
LostRoses, I couldn't resist looking up your ancestor on the 1900 census... he was not so easy to find, since the census enumerator entered his name as "S. Mildred Saxton". Did you run into that record?
Couldn't agree more with you. I think everyone is tired of all the war, terror, and fear. let's hope soon that during the coming holidays, when we all think of peace on earth that hopefully it well happen. Thanks for the gentle reminder.
Thanks, all, for your comments. Hope, like a garden, springs eternal, doesn't it?
Annie, that's funny about poor "Mildred". I haven't looked him up in the census. He appears to be a distand cousin or uncle and I have my hands full with direct lines of descent! Someday in my retirement....I keep saying!
Apple, I often wonder if our ancestors thought they were living in interesting times or was it just normal everyday to them? And did they ever think someone would be researching them someday? Doubtful!

I certainly hope all our grandchildren grow up in peacetime.
A nice tribute to veterans.
Oh, Mary. I hope so, too! Peacetime - a wonderful time.
Yes...peace would be nice...meanwhile, so long as we remember, and honour, maybe we'll live to see that day. I dunno. But we need hope, don't we?

I hope so too, we've had war in this world for far too long.

When I saw a comment to "Mary". I had to drop the comment box down to make sure I knew where I was! :)
Peace would be wonderful, but I think it will be a long time in coming.
Yep, it's me, Zoey, another one of those Marys.
Peace and freedom our hope for today and the future!
I hope for world peace so that our grandchildren stay safe.
Samuel Willard Saxton certainly is a very interesting ancestor. His time at Brook Farm must have been amazing.
naturegirl, yes we are always hopeful, aren't we?
