CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF SHOWERS..

That's what they said last evening, but it was a rather shocking surprise this morning to find that 4-6 inches had sneakily fallen overnight. Even the weather man was surprised.
When I got home from work this afternoon I had to check on the new bulb bed I planted last fall under the little amur maple. No sign of the daffodils that had been perky the day before but I can see the hyacinths are tucked in nicely, and even a tulip or two.
Off the back patio everything is sporting a crown of snow. You can see from the flagstones that the snow didn't stick to surfaces that had been warmed considerably by our 60-plus degree days we've enjoyed recently. The guy that aerates the lawn was supposed to come today. He's rescheduled for next Monday but the forecast is...cloudy with a chance of showers.

That's incredible. When will it end??? Such a good start for the garden and mother nature pulls another stunt like this. We have been having warm weather for the past three weeks or so; however, we did have a weekend of two super hard frosts that nipped hydrangeas and ferns. They are thriving again, though.

Mother Nature gets a laugh! That poor tulip looks like it's barely standing up under the snow.

Since the ground is warmed up and defrosted, it looks dramatic [or funny, depending on the mood of the viewer!] but hopefully it won't do any damage - just be messy!
But a chiminea in snow looks just pitiful:-)

YIKES! Winter just doesn't want to leave! I hope there's not any damage too.

Oh no! I can imagine your reaction. The weather and climate is so weird. We had a wonderful week (it hasnt EVER been so warm in March here) but I know it wont last long and I try to behave if it starts to snow again...haa.

Mother Nature has not been kind this year. I hope it all melted today and that your bulbs all survived.

Oh no! You have snow! I feel very pity for you!

We had such a great spring day today and tomorrow, temperatures will raise up to 68 °C according to the weather forecast. I'll send some sunshine over to your place!

I hope the snow will soon be history and you well be able to enjoy the spring, too!

We just know this is going to happen to us.It was almost 60here today we went and worked in the gardens. Now I don't know if we should have.:)

Mary, this is par for the course here. Mother Nature will have her way with us in early spring, no matter what we think!

Lynne, yes, she is laughing! Poor fools we are, thinking we might be in for some lovely weather from here on out.

Annie, I thought the checkerborad effect on the flagstones looked rather amusing. The chiminea wonders what it is doing in this garden to begin with!

Melissa, no damage, just a few bent stems once the daffodils emerged again. I cut them and put them in a vase (a very short vase) and put them on the table so I can at least enjoy them while I read the paper!

Maria, we are just being teased by the fleeting warm weather, aren't we? You must behave yourself if the snows come again!

Apple, I still have lots of tulips in bud that hadn't even started to bloom before the snow came, so I have those to look forward to.

Anita, the snow is a mixed blessing. We always need the moisture here but I personally would rather see it in the form of rain!

Laurie & Chris, I did the same thing last weekend and I feel like I was tempting fate. Rather like washing your car and then watching it rain!

Oh no SHOCK! Someone must send this snow off now!

Oh my what a shock for sure! It is a good thing those early blossoms can tolerate a bit of snow and ice....did you hear that mother nature...a bit of snow!! We continue to have cold 3celcius wet chill you to the bone weather and it's pouring out as I type.. :(NG

Goodness me! We have had lovely sunshine, although it is chilly in the evenings - Spring is definitely here!

How rude!!
Just look at those poor tulips! We have an interesting forecast, too.
Cloudy with a chance of winter beating down our door...
ugh!!
(thanks for the tip about the nicotiana!)

Never mind, it will melt away and leave you with a pretty spring garden once more. This sort of thing happens in the Netherlands too, every once in awhile.

I like the snow-covered tulip. Poor thing.

They are predicting we may have snow flurries at the end of the week. I HOPE that's all we get. NO accumulation, please.

So that's where the snow went - our forecasted 4 inches which did not materialize. It sounds as if your weather forecasters are as accurate as ours.

We had some snow today though ... brr, it is still really cold here!

Carol and NatureGirl, we're pretty much used to being "shocked" in the spring here. I have to keep reminding myself that April is our third snowiest month!

Clare, I don't dare say "spring is here" until about May 30th!

Sissy, "cloudy with a chance of winter" -- very clever! I'll have to remember that. Good luck with your nicotiana too!

Monarch, Zoey, and Rusty, I do feel sorry for the flowers..all that energy to bloom and then they get smacked in the face! Good thing nature always perseveres.

Verena and Yolanda, you're right about the moisture. Every bit we get here is welcome, even though I'd prefer it in the form of rain!

Carol, even when I'm peeved with the snow, I have to admit I like the way it looks on the flowers. There's just something so incongruous about it that amuses me!

Oh Kate, so that's why we had snow, we took yours! Hope that's been rectified!
